I need to tell you I am in love. Isn't that what spring is all about? The sap is running, the flowers are blooming, the birds are nesting and love is in the air. Being happily married, I seldom get crushes on other men. I don't even lust after movie stars. But if this soy-mustard sauce was a man, it would be Bradley Cooper and I just might be tempted to stray. Yes, folks, it is that good. It's so good it makes me want to be bad!
Is it possible to crush on foodstuffs? Yes, I tell you, it is. This one of the most delectable, interesting, and easy new recipes I've made in quite some time. It turned up innocently enough in an email from My Recipes. I clicked through to the website. It was rated 5 stars and had glowing reviews out the wazoo. Could something so simple really be that good? Little did I know I was about to become obsessed.
The recipe haunted me and a few days later I had to try it. Our local grocery had London Broil on sale that week, so I subbed it for the flank steak. Also, although the recipe said to cook the steak on a grill pan, we opted to cook outdoors. Besides, the 2 pound London Broil wouldn't fit in my grill pan. So while the steak, which is simply dressed with salt and pepper, cooked to a lovely medium rare, I made the sauce.
This sauce is so easy to make its almost criminal. Nothing should get away with being so simple and tasting so good. Mince a clove or two of garlic and cook it in a teaspoon of canola oil in a small skillet over medium high heat for thirty seconds. Be careful not to let it burn. Add two tablespoons of low-sodium soy sauce. And yes, it has to be low-sodium. If you use regular soy sauce it will be too salty. Add a teaspoon of Dijon mustard and ¾ teaspoons of sugar. Now stir it around for about one minute while it gets thick and hot and bubbly. Remove from the heat and add 1 and ½ tablespoons of heavy whipping cream and a tablespoon of chopped cilantro. That’s it! Taste it and swoon.
Slice your meat and anoint it with the sauce. Sprinkle an additional 1 tablespoon of chopped cilantro over the steak. The meal was so good we were moaning with delight. How was it that such a simple combination of common ingredients morphed into such lusciousness so quickly? I don't know. Like love, it's a mystery.

This is supposed to be a Cooking Light recipe coming in at 202 calories per serving. LOL. That's for a three ounce serving of meat and one tablespoon of sauce. Puhleeze! You will definitely eat more than that because it is so good. And since the sauce is so yummy you will want to bathe in it so you can absorb it's creamy deliciousness through each and every pore, one tablespoon is not enough. One tablespoon is just enough to tantalize the palate, not to satisfy.
